January 23, 2017: First Day IRS Will Accept Electronic Tax Returns

The New Year has barely begun and it's time to start thinking about filing your 2016 return.  January 23, 2017 is the first day the IRS will accept electronic tax returns.  Great news if you have a simple return and aren't waiting for any forms to come in the mail.

The press release linked above also includes a caution to tax payers who may not be aware that,
"The IRS reminds taxpayers that a new law requires the IRS to hold refunds claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) until Feb. 15."  (emphasis mine)

If you claim these, be aware that you may not see your refund til much closer to the end of February.
